What is our church like?

Good shepherd is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America located in Berwick, Pennsylvania. The saints at Good Shepherd make up a dynamic community as we seek to reach out to all, proclaiming God’s love in Jesus Christ.

By the grace of God and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we’ve cultivated a warm, relaxing culture where our faith is strengthened and enriched. In worship, intentional small groups, and creative ministry opportunities, we are growing in faith, hope, and love. You are welcome to join us at any of our expressions of ministry!

What is the Lutheran Tradition?

The medieval Catholic monk Martin Luther was a man of conviction. As he read Ephesians 2:8, Luther deeply connected with the words:

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

This would eventually go on to form the basis of Lutheran theology. Being saved by grace means we believe we do not earn salvation, but rather it is a gift from God poured out in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are then free to fulfill the words of Jesus in Matthew 22 and Mark 12, which state: “The greatest commandment is this: love the Lord your God… and love your neighbor as yourself.”
